Anti Ragging Committee

 

Our institution follows a Zero-Tolerance Policy against ragging in any form. Ragging is a punishable offense under UGC Regulations and the Indian Penal Code. The college is committed to ensuring a safe, secure, and student-friendly campus environment.

Aim

 

To eliminate ragging from the campus and promote a culture of respect, safety, and discipline among students.

Objectives

 
  • To prevent ragging within the institution through continuous monitoring.
  • To ensure strict implementation of UGC Anti-Ragging Regulations.
  • To respond promptly to any complaints of ragging.
  • To support both victims and complainants with confidentiality.
  • To create awareness and educate students on the consequences of ragging.

What is Ragging?

 

As per UGC guidelines, ragging includes:

  • Verbal or physical abuse
  • Harassment, teasing, bullying
  • Humiliation or intimidation
  • Forcing students into unwanted tasks/activities
  • Sexual harassment or obscene acts
  • Cyber bullying, social media harassment
  • Restricting movement, dress, food, or communication

Anti-Ragging Committee

 

The Anti-Ragging Committee monitors, prevents, and acts against ragging activities. It ensures compliance with all anti-ragging regulations and handles complaints with utmost seriousness.

Anti-Ragging Squad

 

The Anti-Ragging Squad conducts surprise inspections in hostels, classrooms, campus areas, and common zones. Their role is to detect, prevent, and report any suspicious activity related to ragging.

Roles & Responsibilities

A. Anti-Ragging Committee

 
  • Overall monitoring of anti-ragging measures.
  • Addressing complaints received from students, parents, or staff.
  • Conducting inquiry and recommending disciplinary action.
  • Ensuring UGC Compliance (online affidavit, website display, etc.)
  • Making policy decisions on prevention efforts.

B. Anti-Ragging Squad

 
  • Conduct surprise checks in campus and hostels.
  • Patrol common areas to detect potential ragging.
  • Report incidents immediately to the committee.
  • Maintain daily vigilance during the first 2–3 months of the session.

C. Class Mentors / Faculty

 
  • Observe student behaviour in classrooms.
  • Support new students during induction.
  • Report suspicious activities.

D. Hostel Warden

 
  • Monitor hostel discipline.
  • Maintain register of residents.
  • Report movement, gatherings, or unusual behaviour of students.

Punishments for Ragging

 

Depending on severity :

Minor Offences

 
  • Warning
  • Apology letter
  • Counselling
  • Community service

Major Offences

 
  • Suspension from class
  • Suspension from hostel
  • Cancellation of scholarship/fellowship
  • FIR / Police complaint
  • Expulsion from institution
  • Debarring from examinations
  • Withholding results
  • Permanent rustication

Ragging is also a criminal offense under Indian Penal Code.
