Research and Development Committee

 

Objectives:

 

The Research and Development Committee aims to:

  • Promote a research-oriented culture among faculty and students across all departments.
  • Encourage quality research leading to publications, patents, presentations, and funded projects.
  • Support the initiation, execution, and dissemination of research work within the institution.
  • Identify thrust areas and emerging fields for collaborative and interdisciplinary research.
  • Facilitate capacity-building programs such as workshops, training, and FDPs in research methodologies.
  • Provide guidance for writing proposals, grants, and ethical approvals.
  • Strengthen institutional linkages with industries, research institutes, and funding agencies.
  • Ensure adherence to research ethics and academic integrity.

Mechanism:

 
  • Formation of Committee: Committee constituted annually with a Chairperson, senior faculty, and departmental research coordinators.
  • Planning & Policy Development: Formulation of research policies, guidelines, and R&D plans for the academic year.
  • Identification of Research Areas: Consultation with departments to identify thrust areas and research problems.
  • Proposal Development Support: Conducting sessions on grant writing, ethics, and experimental design. Providing internal review / proofreading of proposals before submission.
  • Project Facilitation: Assisting faculty and students in applying for internal and external funded projects.
  • Monitoring of Research Activities: Regular review of ongoing projects and progress reports. Maintaining a database of publications, patents, and presentations.
  • Ethical Compliance: Ensuring research proposals involving biological, human, or animal subjects obtain ethics committee clearance.
  • Dissemination & Recognition: Organizing conferences, seminars, poster presentations, and R&D exhibitions. Recommending awards or incentives for outstanding research contributions.

Functions of the Committee

 
  • Promote and nurture research culture among faculty and students.
  • Facilitate collaborations with national/international institutions and industries.
  • Guide faculty in preparing proposals for agencies like DST, DBT, ICMR, UGC, AICTE, SPPU, etc.
  • Scrutinize and approve internal research proposals.
  • Maintain research records such as publications, citations, H-index, patents, and funded projects.
  • Organize FDPs, workshops, and seminars on research methodology, IP rights, SPSS, data analysis, etc.
  • Promote ethical practices and prevent plagiarism through awareness and software support.
  • Encourage student research through competitions like Avishkar, research internships, and summer projects.
  • Facilitate publication support through guidelines on journal selection, referencing, and manuscript preparation.
  • Recommend infrastructure improvements for research labs and instruments.
