Pharmacognosy Laboratory
The Pharmacognosy Laboratory is dedicated to the study of medicinal plants, natural products, and crude drugs used in traditional and modern medicines. This laboratory provides hands-on training in identification, authentication, and evaluation of natural drugs obtained from plant, animal, and mineral sources.
Students learn macroscopic and microscopic evaluation of crude drugs, powder analysis, phytochemical screening, extraction techniques, and qualitative analysis of bioactive constituents. Training is also given in the preparation of herbal formulations, cultivation practices, and quality control of herbal medicines.
The laboratory supports research in phytopharmaceuticals, herbal drug standardization, and formulation development. Emphasis is placed on Good Agricultural and Collection Practices (GACP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and ethical research standards. This lab builds strong foundational knowledge for students interested in herbal drug technology, research, and product development.
