Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is at the core of the pharmacy education programme, covering several aspects of new drug discovery and development.The subject of Pharmaceutical Chemistry plays a vital role in grooming a student into a true Pharma Professional. The collaborative research environment within the department and with other departments of the institute will expose students to a wide range of modern state of art research not only in the pharmaceutical sciences but also interdisciplinary research, invaluable for a successful career in the chosen field. The department is involved in taking lectures in the subjects of organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical/medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical analysis for the undergraduate students. (Four years B. Pharm course) and Advanced Medicinal Chemistry, Modern Pharmaceutical Analytical Techniques, Advanced Analytical Techniques, Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry for the post graduate students.(Two year M. Pharm Course)

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry was established in the year 1993. Currently, there are 6 teaching staffs in the department. Two faculty members have doctoral degree and remaining faculty members are pursuing Ph. D. The department offers the master’s program in Pharmaceutical Chemistry since 2004. College has research center in Pharmaceutical Chemistry.All teaching staff of department is recognized PG guide.

The department's research areas concentrate on the development of novel chemical entities for the treatment of inflammation, seizures, microbial infections and hypertension and analytical method development. The students are actively engaged in research activities under faculty guidance in varied research projects like- 

• analytical method development and validation of APIs and formulations, 
• standardization of herbal products using modern analytical techniques,   
• development and synthesis of anticancer and anti-infective scaffolds using CADD and their bioactivity.

The department is successful in getting financial support from various funding agencies like AICTE, UGC and SPPU. Faculty members are actively engaged in research and they publish their work in reputed national and international journals. The research work is also presented at reputed national/international conferences.

The department is equipped with sophisticated instruments like HPLC, FT-IR, Gas Chromatography, UV-Visible spectrophotometer, microwave synthesizer, PCR, microcentrifuge, all of those have been procured with the financial support from funding agencies. In addition, the department has a computational facility (VLife-MDS 4.6 software) for designing drug molecules.
